The Soquel Creek Water District (District) is opening its doors for a special Open House event and the entire community is invited. A highlight will be the unveiling of the District's newest addition to its public outreach program: a mobile educational trailer focusing on the Pure Water Soquel project that is currently under evaluation to address the critical overdraft and seawater intrusion issues of the District's groundwater supply.
The Open House is scheduled for Thursday, July 20 from 4:30 to 7 pm at the District Headquarters:
5180 Soquel Drive
Soquel, CA 95073
Community members are invited to drop-in and get the latest information and updates about what's going on with the District: take a tour of the Rosedale Well and our rain catchment system, learn about our Community Water Plan and current infrastructure projects, try an edible aquifer (ice-cream float), and take a H2O Taste Test Challenge. Plus, attendees can enter our free drawing to win a new, water-efficient toilet.
A special ribbon-cutting will take place to inaugurate the District's new Pure Water Soquel Educational Trailer - an interactive and engaging mobile unit to help educate our community about the Pure Water Soquel Project. From bright and colorful information panels, to hands-on-samples of actual materials involved in the water purification process, guests of all ages can gain a better understanding of the Pure Water Soquel project that is being evaluated and how it fits into the Community Water Plan.
The District will also use this Open House as an opportunity to honor its Turf Replacement Superstars - community members or groups who have replaced a large amount of turf at their home or home owners association (HOA) with low-water use landscaping. Typically summer water use increases due to outside watering and these water-saving Superstars are doing their part to save water year-round. This year's Turf Replacement Superstars are Kurt Foutts, Stephen Fehrman, Chris Miroyan, Capitola Knolls HOA, and Beachcliff HOA.
RSVPs are encouraged so we can better plan to accommodate all attendees. There will be limited parking available at District Headquarters - please consider carpooling, and please park on adjacent streets.
